Yep. And, don't forget that they're taking it even further than that. The hall of monuments will give you GW2 rewards for your GW1 grinding. In other words, someone who buys GW2 new on day one still could be potentially YEARS behind in progress of someone who's been grinding since titles were introduced. Guild Wars was awesome. Grind Wars sucks.

Anyways, I'm off to play something less frustrating, like a half broken survival horrer game made in the former Soviet Union.

So?

Seriously, being in law enforcement is what makes this thread so comical to me. Most of the people here are using the same excuses I hear thieves and meth addicts use on a daily basis.
/whatis addiction?

I think that for a fair few of the banned, this may not be too bad a thing. You know, cold turkey and all that. Addiction would be the driving force behind the majority IMO, addiction to gaming, addiction to GW, money, the making of money, prestige, power... All these things are addictive, all these things are part of GW, so for those who are suffering from it, be it apparent to them or not, a wall between them and their addiction at least gives them the opportunity to have 30 seconds or so of fresh air to clear their thoughts, perhaps give them the mirror or introspection with regards to their addiction and the activities it has led them to.

Just a thought.

I seriously am considering to bring my PvP Mesmer out of hiatus. I really want to play PvP with him again but I don't want to risk being reported by some child scrubs and then get banned for being a legit guy.

Play Mind Surge. No interrupts. Ludicrously OP in casual arenas.

HAHAHA
Last week one of my guildies logged back in {my guild list all reads 2 years since last online so it was a bit of a shock to say the least } Well he was the first person I met in GWs and hands down one of the best mesmers to have played the game, My first peice of advise was not to play full speed or he would get reported for being a bot.

I know there has been a ton of this bot crap going on but people need to realize that some of the really good players can be frustrating as hell and just because they do things you aren't use to doesn't mean they are cheating...

As per this:

Does Arena.Net have any response to this particular mod? It's .dll injecting just like KSMod but deals with packets to produce a client side-only /rank /zrank /aion.

When I saw the youtube link I've always wondered if that was considered bannable or not since it's not giving any form of unfair advantage.

Do the UT99 sounds deal with packet manipulation? My first guess would be "yes" since it has to detect deaths but don't quote me on that since I am not entirely sure. I AM, however, curious what aNet's stand is against packet manipulation (like in the example on the top half of my post).

I'm so glad I'm too stupid to figure out how bots work. If I were smarter, my account would so totally be banned right now. Being stupid pays off in the weirdest ways.

i will point out for those interested: in certain countries such as the netherlands and the UK they can not legally permanently ban you do to various parts of the intellectual property laws...so i suggest pointing that out to support unless they wish to be in violation of laws. in the US i will point out that this is a viable (and has successfully litigated precedents) cause for a law suit because the game is essentially the purchase of a right to access a product and as the game is not a "pay to play" game there is no "service' according to US law which can be legally terminated. the "access" to guildwars is a solely owned (by the game purchaser) property whereas the game itself belongs to anet or whoever has the intellectual property rights..which means that termination of access is a violation of intellectual property laws..anyone who actually cares enough i would suggest contacting an intellectual property law firm. In these situations citing precedent is usually enough.

now i will say that i do not support botting or violating EULA, but only pointing out the loopholes that currently exist in IP law. (or in the case of the netherlands and UK firm laws protecting consumer rights) i'm sure arena net would highly disagree with the ideas i suggested but..the law is the law whether or not it is a just law is another story.
and yes sadly this would mean that no one could be "legally banned" in certain countries but the opinion of those nation's governing bodies was that a "lawfully and rightfully obtained product cannot be legally denied to the consumer unless in violation of law" and if the product itself was access not ownership of the game then denying access regardless of a EULA that only regards the gameplay and not the access is not lawful..

something to think about~ and if interested in possible legal recourse i suggest googling class action intellectual property rights.

^ is mistaken, I've seen that posted before (usually on WoW forums) and I've yet to see anyone actually win such a case.

You don't own your account, you have the right to use your account while you abide by the rules of the game, if you can't do that your right to use your account can be taken away.

Good to know. If you guys care, I care, and I'll keep on using /report against every identifiable bot that I see in RA an JQ.

You don't own your account, you have the right to use your account while you abide by the rules of the game, if you can't do that your right to use your account can be taken away.
the difference here is that the access to WoW is a service which you continuously pay for which can be denied but in guild wars the access is a single purchase which defines it as sole property of the purchaser. whereas the game itself belongs to the company who makes it.

and in fact you do own your "account" so to speak but nothing actually ON the account. since the game key is defined as the point of access for a non pay to play game such as guild wars instead of a pay to access game. so under various countries law they cannot ban but could quite legitimately delete everything on the account while its on temporary ban and then give access back. it all depends on the country involved.

i would also point out that the eula as a legally binding contract for agreement to behavior in game would only apply to players over the age of 18 unless the parent gave clear written and fully informed consent at the time of agreement.
